Seattle Parking Meter

The experience with broken parking meters that Seattle Rex reported last week have become a bigger issue than first thought. SDOT now estimates anywhere up to 100 stations that do not spit out a pay sticker when drivers pay with a debit or credit card. The affected meters are located in Capitol Hill, the U-District, the waterfront, Belltown, and First Hill.

Fluctuating signal from a cell tower that serves the electronic pay stations is causing this disruption in processing payments. The city’s parking enforcement officers have been asked to be lenient in areas affected by these machines, however it’s not a guarantee that you will not receive a parking ticket. Paying by coins would be the safer option. If you are unable to pay by coins and all nearby meters are not properly functioning, drivers are asked to leave a note on their dashboard.
